New Picture Galleries

While experimenting with the new picture gallery I wrote that everything I do on the site is new to me and the reason is I had no formal training developing web sites. That is why its taking a little longer for me to try new things and to also implement them. For a while I new about a unique picture viewer called Simple Viewer but I did not really know how to implement it to this site. In addition NetObjects has a viewer integrated into the program. I first tried the build in viewer and did not really like it because it was difficult for me to picture how one can extend it to more users.

Those of you who saw the changes I made to the site last Friday and the Friday before will have an idea of what we can do in the future.

What I am thinking of is to give members access to a “space” on the site. On that space the member can then present a professionally made gallery of his or hers work plus the member can add important details of his or hers work including contact details. Think of it as a mini site within a existing platform.

We can also keep it simple and it will be possible for the member to only place a series of pictures in a gallery for others to enjoy. Both options are possible and both options will have value for all off us involved.

Who are members? The first step will be to register on our forum. The second step will be to become active on the site in terms of submitting pictures for approval for the gallery and to become an active contributor on our forum. We are a global group of photographers meeting here and we are all enjoying our cameras plus taking pictures. By being active we know you and you become a active part of our community.

The Picture of the Week (POW) will continue as is and Pius will soon be able to place a winner again.

There are one more aspect I like to think off in the future and this will depend very much on the members of this web site. We a global group and well spread across the globe. In many Countries there are guys who visit this site that do not know of others most probably also visiting. If you willing to become a organizer then I will be happy to create a space on the site for groups to report on their activities. Again we create a mini site within this site or we can create a page only. What groups then do is to arrange for a get together over a weekend day and to then do a photo day together. The group can then report on their day on the site and others will find great benefit in their experiences I believe.
