Called “The pod”, it is most probably the most interesting gadget I saw in a long time. How often do you want to place your camera on a table, a stone, any surface that will help you to get a steady shot?

How often is there no space or place to setup your mini tripod correctly? Well see this little fellow, its small, you can mount your G7 on top of a small area if needed plus its fits in the bag.....

G7 & G9 Accessories

pod

They come in various sizes, the yellow is made for a compact like the G7 or the G9.Does not work that well with the E-410, the Oly requires one size up. Click on the above picture to see The pod web site....

DCC600 Bag from Canon

Bags3

Its a “small” leather pouch type bag that hangs from the belt. It covers the G7 or the G9 and will most probably give reasonably good protection if the camera fall.

Its heavy hanging from the belt and could also be a little wide. I use mine and I find it great. One cannot put anything else but the camera in the bag.

The advantage is one can easily get the camera out and in no time be ready to take a picture...

SC-DC50 or 55 bag from Canon

This is the most interesting, special and unique bag I saw in a very long time. I was lucky to find one on Zurich airport and never saw one there again.

It has the classical old film camera look plus the way it opens and handles let one think back to the film days, a perfect match for the G7 or the G9.

It has two unique aspects I really like, the one being protection for the screen and the other, its forms a very nice and natural “grip” where you hold the camera with your right hand.

When using this bag one will not use the grip from Richard, the thumb rest and the hot shoe cover will still do. With this bag the silver lens ring of the G7 also looks better for me.

External Flash for the G7 or the G9

220EX14

One basically has two choices, the 220EX with fixed flash head and the 430EX that has a fully flexible rotating flash head.

There are options from others suppliers too. To be honest I found the Canon flash to work best.

On the picture is a 420EX, its a great unit, has ETTL-II ability and works beautifully together with the G7 or the G9.

The 420EX is physically a little smaller than the 430EX which makes it feel better when fitted on the G7 or the G9

The 420EX also has the swivel head in all directions like the 430EX. Should I get the 220EX for the G7 or the G9? These units are extremely refined and combined with something like face recognition and they even better. If you a family guy and you like to take pictures of the family, the dog and the school hall, then the 220EX is perfect. What makes it even better is its small size.

On the other hand if you serious about photography and you like to move into more serious creative stuff, then first buy a SLR and then the 430EX or the 580EX. Its true that for said description its better to have a SLR but many G7 or G9 owners also experiment and some quickly develop into requiring a SLR at some point. Its for these guys that the 430EX is a must.

G7flash

One of my favorite combo’s today.

Since I am back or more active with a SLR, did my requirements change. Lets say the hype of using the perfect equipment is not so much anymore. Indirect flash work is good and the results is good.

On the other hand, when in a family get together, then one does not really want a 580EX master on top of the G7 with two 420EX slaves on the side to get that perfect exposure on my sister’s nose...

This is the older model 28 from Metz and one can get them still new in Switzerland at really low prices. It has full E-TTL, it works of the G7 like a dream, fits nicely, has a small bag of its own, just perfect. Ah for my sister’s nose, I set the flash output two notches down, works perfectly, everytime....

G7 or G9 Lens Adapters:-

Which one is the better one and which one do you recommend?

lensm1

I own the Lensmate plus the Canon lens adapter. I know some guys say the Canon adapter is plastic, personally I do not think so, it feels like aluminum or something like that. They both durable and both can last a life time. Mine traveled with me, they were used extensively and they both still like the day I received them

The Lensmate adapter has a little tighter fit which is good when you hang a heavy wide angle lens on it.

The Canon adapter looks great with the Canon markings on it.

Should you get one?

Yes, its a 58 mm diameter, you can fit filters, a polarizer, a lens cap, it protects the lens, without a doubt a good add-on to the G7 or the G9. Even if you decide not to add the tele or the wide angle adapter, its still a great help in terms of filters you can add.

You can later use the 58 mm filters on your new E-410 SLR camera.

The PowerShot G7 or G9 in full creative Mode

filter3

This is the G7 plus the lens adapter. On the front is a Cokin filter adapter and in the adapter a filter plate from Cokin. Who said one cannot use filters with a digital camera.

Its fun, try it. Also on the picture is my own version of a grip, that was before Richard did his excellent design.

It is also possible to fit a macro 2x adapter to the lens adapter. Like I said above the adapter is a must, it just makes things so much more fun and easy.

This is the macro adapter one can fit to the front of the lens adapter Page to the Lensmate page to see more on this adapter. I find it a lot of fun in summer to take the G7 plus the macro adapter and to head for the flowers. Not only flowers, insects, butterflies, one can spend hours with this combo.

The real reward is when you get back home, its then what you see what these cameras can really do...

If you look closely then you will see the macro adapter is fitted to a SLR lens. Yes that’s correct, the 58 mm diameter of the G7 / 9 lens adapter is a generally used diameter
