Panasonic

Panasonic Lumix Range

In 2008 I decided to partner with Panasonic by buying their excellent new LX3 compact camera. At roughly the same time I was lucky to get the L10 SLR camera from Panasonic at a very good price. I immediately bought 2 of the L10 SLR’s, I sold the one on the web and the return on the one was enough to pay for both.

In doing this I also sort of rediscovered digital photography and each and every picture I take with these two cameras were a new and pleasant experience.

“But Panasonic cannot build cameras”, somebody wrote on one of the better known forums!! Well, you should go and try one, what you have been dreaming about, does exist.

At the time I decided to add these exciting products to the site and I were looking forward making time to write about them.

Unfortunately in the interim I sold both the LX3 and the L10. Somebody saw the pictures I took with the LX3 while on holiday and immediately gave me the money required to replace it and he took the LX3 from me. The L10 I sold to buy the E3 I today use. Is the E3 that much better? No the image quality is similar, its the total package or the sum of parts in terms of the E3 that makes it the better camera to have.

The above cameras are some of the absolute best I ever used. That includes the D300 from Nikon. The only camera to really better the L10 in absolute image quality and detail is the 5D MKII from Canon. Olympus has some of the best lenses on the market and these matched with the L10 produces awesome pictures.

I never replaced the LX3, instead I was fortunate to come across a second hand G1 and I took that instead. In true Lumix tradition the G1 is also a gem. The micro four thirds is different and something to get use to. For example I often think that the G1 fitted into the bigger L10 body would be such a interesting camera.

I did buy a faulty LX3 from eBay and will get that repaired on a later stage. Its something I like to hold on too because it is such a special and unique product Panasonic manufactured that its worth the effort.
