The Camera Chapter

Last Updated: 31st December 2009

Olympus E30

The E30 from Olympus was launched in the 1st QTR 2009 and it was rapidly identified and recognized by the photographic community as highly competent and a great fit for both the amateur and the hobby photographer.

What are the basic elements a wedding photographer look for in a camera? Well its simply high picture quality, the ability of the camera to record good levels of details, high speed focus and accurate focus system. Excellent manual functionality plus good flash integration is also aspects of a good wedding SLR camera. The lens quality  plays a critical role because our clients like to have the best possible from that special day. Olympus has a good selection of professionally graded lenses from 8mm fish eye, right up to fast 400mm zoom lenses.

The E3 and the E30 are perfect partners to the commercial photographer and it is especially their great focus speed that set them apart.

The next level up will be the 5D MKII from Canon. Its picture quality is awesome but photographers complain that the focus system is not that great. The 7D looks like it could become the next benchmark in this segment.

There are much more to wedding photography today. Personally I think it is becoming a highly specialized discipline because the competition is just so high. Interesting is that its not the fact, that everybody owning a digital camera thinks he or she can be a wedding photographer, its rather a real talent amongst wedding photographers driving the requirements ever higher.

What is the perfect camera?

I think that this is the question most people face today. They still relatively expensive and therefor people spend more time when searching for the perfect camera.

What functions do I need, how many pixels do I need and are a compact’s OK, what about the new 4/3rds standard and so many more questions.

For more information on the different cameras I used, please see the pages I dedicated to each.
